Coldstream Hills prides itself for having access to many of the best vineyards in the Yarra Valley. Back in the late 1980s, James Halliday introduced single vineyard wines to Coldstream Hills demonstrating their unique styles. The tradition has continued with the release of the Single Vineyard range.
The fruit derived from Dr's Block is a chameleon in some respects. An alluring bouquet of vibrant red fruits, hints at Upper Yarra origins, however this brooding single vineyard Pinot Noir hails from the warmer, lower Yarra Valley. Cherries, raspberries and strawberries marry with understated French oak on the palate, transpose beautifully from the nose, interwoven with whole bunch spice and savouriness. Fine, chalky tannins and impressive structure confirm its Lower Yarra roots. A medium-bodied style, enjoy the generosity of flavour of this inaugural release.

From a vineyard planted to MV6 pinot noir in 1997.
It’s a sure-footed pinot with cherry-plum flavours and inlays of spice. There’s a gently macerated aspect to the flavour of the fruit but it’s ably offset by a gentle, general, varietal sourness and by a just-enough infusion of cedar wood oak. Fragrant herbs and undergrowth characters rise as the wine breathes. This is a nice wine, not outstanding but very good. Another 12+ months in bottle wouldn’t do it any harm. - Campbell Mattinson
Cooler than Bordeaux yet warmer than Burgundy, picturesque Yarra Valley is one of Australia's foremost cool-climate wine regions. An easy one-hour’s drive from Melbourne, the area is home to more than 80 cellar doors. In addition to the huge range of wineries, the area boasts superb contemporary restaurants, authentic rustic farms - and luxury overnight accommodation if the sightseeing gets too much! The fertile Yarra Valley soils produce famously elegant and textured Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
